Strawman

The news reported that the top word of the year
was rage bait, followed by a segment of a tyrannical
politician asking who we were, not yet quenched
with the innocent blood she spewed on her way
to a ninety-seven percent inauguration

The rich morally bankrupt with the poor righteous aristocrat,
plagued by soul-eating looks from vacant stares,
wrestling with angels she graduated from the earth,
all those souls, all those souls, stolen like stuffed
papers in a plastic box…

I’m being stopped and frisked for identification,
yet I’m sovereign on the land, by an agent
from a fictitious corporation in a face mask
who would prefer me subdued, docile and grateful
to see no evil, hear no evil, to not speak out about their evil…

He checks my credentials in ALL CAPS, he lets me pass
I continue walking, thoughts rumbling in my mind
adrenalin pumping, we march, protest and chant
only for the system to put in new
well-dressed and well-fed goons
