Poem with Song Lyrics, Birds & Gods

5:10, the whip-poor-will sang before the crow,
American robin summer tanager & omnipresent vireo.

The divine hummingbirds have gone elsewhere, except for
one tenacious pair, settled agreeably with no other

ruby throats to fight for the sugar water feeders. This June,
the country burns andante non troppo, bits at a time like Rome

so we can ignore the truth that the monuments of the last century
are rendered to ash as chaos continues without lessening.

It’s the end of the world as we know it. All that remains is ruined columns
and the lies we tell the children about a national Christ skin

color and the possibilities for their future prospects, which appear
to be dimmed by AI and fire, godless neighbors and scarcity.

Isn't it time to wonder, not for the first time, Is this my beautiful life?
And ask yourself, isn't it about time for the old Gods to revivify?
