Another

Another fatal shooting's in the news.
I glance, then click away. I won't peruse
the facts. Another shooting's in the news.

Again the movies. Last time was church pews--
or, no: the time before that. They confuse,
these other shootings always in the news.

Three dead, nine injured. Is that all? My view's
adapted to the times, so please excuse
my sense another shooting's hardly news.

It's just a prompt the pundits all will use
for shaking heads and fighting over who's
to blame another shooting's in the news.

My son’s new job goes well. My garden’s blues
and yellows thrive. Sun shines. The Dodgers cruise.
Oh, and another shooting's in the news.

The thing is all too common. I refuse
to think about those people. I don't choose
to care another shooting's in the news.
It's just another shooting in the news.
