poem
Volume 29, Number 3

A dollar a day

Remember when you return the overdue children,
Who have run out of fresh tears, of short words,
Who have only got eyes to watch you with,
Such dark eyes,
Who were not properly stamped when they were taken
Out—
Remember to ask if they will waive the fine.

It’s the Children’s Section
And it’s easy to lose track
Of those small books.
